Theme: Protests of Truth and Love
Readings from the Bible:
1) Ps. 37:30, 31 (to ;)
The Bible The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment. The law of his God is in his heart; ...
2) Acts 6:810 Stephen
... Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people. ¶ Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen. And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.
3) James 4:7
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
4) Phil. 1:1, 9, 10 (to 1st ;)
Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons: ... And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; That ye may approve things that are excellent; ...
5) I Sam. 8:415 all, 18, 19, 22 (to 1st .)
... all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah, And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations. ¶ But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD. And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them. According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee. Now therefore hearken unto their voice: howbeit yet protest solemnly unto them, and shew them the manner of the king that shall reign over them. ¶ And Samuel told all the words of the LORD unto the people that asked of him a king. And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: He will take your sons, and appoint them for himself, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and some shall run before his chariots. And he will appoint him captains over thousands, and captains over fifties; and will set them to ear his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and instruments of his chariots. And he will take your daughters to be confectionaries, and to be cooks, and to be bakers. And he will take your fields, and your vineyards, and your oliveyards, even the best of them, and give them to his servants. And he will take the tenth of your seed, and of your vineyards, and give to his officers, and to his servants. ... And ye shall cry out in that day because of your king which ye shall have chosen you; and the LORD will not hear you in that day. ¶ Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us; ... And the LORD said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. ...
6) I Sam. 9:17 when, 21 Saul
... when Samuel saw Saul, the LORD said unto him, Behold the man whom I spake to thee of! this same shall reign over my people. ... ... Saul answered and said, Am not I a Benjamite, of the smallest of the tribes of Israel? and my family the least of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin? wherefore then speakest thou so to me?
7) I Sam. 10:1 Samuel, 24 2nd And, 26
... Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not because the LORD hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance? ... ... And all the people shouted, and said, God save the king. ... ... ¶ And Saul also went home to Gibeah; and there went with him a band of men, whose hearts God had touched.
8) Matt. 15:2128 Jesus
... Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon. And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil. But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us. But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs. And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table. Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.
9) Matt. 6:6 when, 24
... when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. ... ... ¶ No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
10) Acts 5:12 by, 15
... by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch. ... Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.
11) I Cor. 15:30, 31 (to ,), 58 my
And why stand we in jeopardy every hour? I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, ... ... my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
Readings from Science and Health:
1) SH 393:1213
correlative passages from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good.
2) SH 275:1214
Spirit, Life, Truth, Love, combine as one, and are the Scriptural names for God.
3) SH 490:68
Hence it cannot govern man aright. Christian Science reveals Truth and Love as the motive-powers of man.
4) SH 307:25
Truth has no beginning. The divine Mind is the Soul of man, and gives man dominion over all things. Man was not created from a material basis, nor bidden to obey material laws which Spirit never made; his province is in spiritual statutes, in the higher law of Mind.
5) SH 390:18
Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him. Suffer no claim of sin or of sickness to grow upon the thought. Dismiss it with an abiding conviction that it is illegitimate, because you know that God is no more the author of sickness than He is of sin. You have no law of His to support the necessity either of sin or sickness, but you have divine authority for denying that necessity and healing the sick.
6) SH 224:31 (only)
No power can withstand divine Love.
7) SH 12:10
It is neither Science nor Truth which acts through blind belief, nor is it the human understanding of the divine healing Principle as manifested in Jesus, whose humble prayers were deep and conscientious protests of Truth, of man's likeness to God and of man's unity with Truth and Love.
8) SH 23:322
The Hebrew verb to believe means also to be firm or to be constant. This certainly applies to Truth and Love understood and practised.
9) SH 150:1821, 31
The science (so-called) of physics would have one believe that both matter and mind are subject to disease, and that, too, in spite of the individual's protest and contrary to the law of divine Mind. ... The hosts of Æsculapius are flooding the world with diseases, because they are ignorant that the human mind and body are myths. To be sure, they sometimes treat the sick as if there was but one factor in the case; but this one factor they represent to be body, not mind. Infinite Mind could not possibly create a remedy outside of itself, but erring, finite, human mind has an absolute need of something beyond itself for its redemption and healing.
10) SH 160:1924, 27
Can muscles, bones, blood, and nerves rebel against mind in one instance and not in another, and become cramped despite the mental protest? Unless muscles are self-acting at all times, they are never so, never capable of acting contrary to mental direction. ... Why then consult anatomy to learn how mortal mind governs muscle, if we are only to learn from anatomy that muscle is not so governed?
11) SH 391:713, 18
Instead of blind and calm submission to the incipient or advanced stages of disease, rise in rebellion against them. Banish the belief that you can possibly entertain a single intruding pain which cannot be ruled out by the might of Mind, and in this way you can prevent the development of pain in the body. No law of God hinders this result. ... ... When the body is supposed to say, I am sick, never plead guilty. Since matter cannot talk, it must be mortal mind which speaks; therefore meet the intimation with a protest. If you say, I am sick, you plead guilty. Then your adversary will deliver you to the judge (mortal mind), and the judge will sentence you. Disease has no intelligence to declare itself something and announce its name. Mortal mind alone sentences itself. Therefore make your own terms with sickness, and be just to yourself and to others.
12) SH 425:29
If you have sound and capacious lungs and want them to remain so, be always ready with the mental protest against the opposite belief in heredity. Discard all notions about lungs, tubercles, inherited consumption, or disease arising from any circumstance, and you will find that mortal mind, when instructed by Truth, yields to divine power, which steers the body into health.
13) SH 418:5, 22
Stick to the truth of being in contradistinction to the error that life, substance, or intelligence can be in matter. Plead with an honest conviction of truth and a clear perception of the unchanging, unerring, and certain effect of divine Science. Then, if your fidelity is half equal to the truth of your plea, you will heal the sick. ... By the truthful arguments you employ, and especially by the spirit of Truth and Love which you entertain, you will heal the sick.
