Anger Healed

Over these past few weeks, I’ve heard through various news media concern for some families having a difficult time getting along with each other during the stay-at-home orders. From a spiritual perspective, anger and abuse can be healed—resulting in all-harmonious living

Generally, everyday living is going well at our house, and we are seeing new opportunities for good here. However, a little while ago, I decided to respond to a survey I’d received on the Internet. I rarely engage in surveys, but this one I thought was interesting and could be helpful to the community. It took longer than I’d hoped.

Toward the end, I said to hit the submit button in order to send the information. Well.. there was no submit button at the end. This was unsettling. This incident stayed with me. Finally, I went to my home office, got quiet, and prayed for a healing idea. I was reminded of an account I’d read that morning in Volume 1 of We Knew Mary Baker Eddy, where Emma C. Shipman recalled a lesson from a class with Mrs. Eddy:

“When Mrs. Eddy was explaining the necessity of reducing evil, to use her words, ‘to its proper denominator,-nobody and nothing’ (Miscellaneous Writings page 108), she put her hands before her level with each other as if weighing something in each, and she said so earnestly, as I recall her words, ‘Always balance evil in the scale with nothingness.’ One saw clearly that evil and nothing exactly balance.”

As I thought about evil as nothing, I realized that an unsettled feeling, evil, couldn’t invade my bring—ever at home with all-harmonious God. This was freeing.

Later, I listened to an article read by its author, through jsh.com. Annu Matthai read her article entitled, “Manage anger or heal it?” She recounted a healing of anger as she went through the steps it took to get some information on her driver’s license corrected. Through quiet, listening prayer, she was healed of anger and when she went again to get the information corrected, the same clerk who has been difficult before was extremely helpful and went out of his way to make sure everything was in order.

The author also commented that she found an article in a Christian Science publication that said that anger is not forced on us by some outward circumstance but is ultimately the result of how we think about ourselves and others. That sounded like just what had happened to me!

The author also made a list of the qualities of Soul, a synonym for God, and realized that she was forever the expression of these qualities. She (and everyone) has these God-given qualities: grace, beauty, substance, completeness, wholeness, individuality, contentment. God, Soul can never, even for a moment, be stopped from expressing these qualities.
My anger was gone. I am so grateful for this healing. The Christ, Truth heals.
